Ignite Raleigh on August 5 at Lincoln Theatre

Posted by Jeff Cohen in Featured Articles, News on 05 18th, 2009 | View Comments

We just confirmed the date and location for Ignite Raleigh and wanted to announce it as soon as we could. Ignite Raleigh will be held on Wednesday, August 5 at the Lincoln Theatre, Raleigh NC.

Ignite events were originally conceived as technology variety shows, but they have grown into much more than that. Ignite is about ideas. Ideas can change the world. And it takes less than five minutes to spread one.

Communities have built up around Ignite events in over 30 cities around the world. Our community will come together around Ignite Raleigh and join others who have experienced Ignite events. The night is filled with 5 minute presentations that each consist of 20 slides. The slides automatically change after 15 seconds. The speaker must react, or not, to the changing visuals on the screen. Do you have what it takes to share your ideas in this way?

Ignite Raleigh will include presentations from members of the Triangle community. We will select some presenters, while others will be selected by the community on this site. Watch for submission dates and other details on this site.

On stage will be Ryan P. Allis, Co-Founder and CEO of iContact, the leading provider of email marketing tools for small businesses. Allis was named by BusinessWeek as one of the “Top 25 Entrepreneurs Under 25? in 2005 and named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year for the Carolinas in 2008. He speaks on entrepreneurship, finding and following your passion, marketing, and social entrepreneurship, and we are looking forward to his Ignite presentation.

The fun-filled night will also include musical entertainment. Already on schedule to perform are North Carolina-based comedy duo, Rhettt and Link. These musicians, filmmakers and “Internetainers” are best known in this area for the BBQ song.

Ignite was started in Seattle in 2006 by Brady Forrest and Bre Pettis. Since then 100s of 5 minute talks have been given across the world. There are thriving Ignite communities in Seattle, Portland, Paris, and NYC.

Registration for free tickets to Ignite Raleigh will open on Tuesday, June 2, 10:00am. Be sure to follow us on Twitter at @IgniteRaleigh for the date topic submissions begin, as well as other announcements.
