Ignite Raleigh 2 blog recaps, slides and media coverage

Posted by Ryan Boyles in Ignite Raleigh 2, News

Hi everyone! We are still so crazy excited from the big Ignite night in downtown Raleigh this week… we are so pleased with the way the event turned out. The team (Wayne, Jeff and Ryan) would like to thank everyone for the tremendous support! We are so glad the night was such a great experience for everyone.

Folks have been asking “when will the videos be posted?” We will post as many as we can, as quickly as we can. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to share their own videos, photos and blog recaps of the night. Please tag everything, “IgniteRaleigh” and this will help us discover all the great content recorded by the audience. This includes Flickr, YouTube, Slideshare, Twitter (isn’t Twitterfall cool?), Blogs, Media coverage; you name it. If you want to contribute to the growing list of Blog recaps and media coverage, please bookmark these in Delicious and they will be included in the widget on this post. For example, bookmark all Blog recaps with IgniteRaleigh + blog + recap. We will post all presentations on Slideshare. Some people have already done so on their own. Videos will be posted to Youtube and also shared on The Ignite Show – Raleigh page.

Here are the blog recaps so far….

We will be posting videos and slides soon (we promise) but need to balance this effort with travel plans for South By Southwest this week – and oh yeah, and did you hear Wayne is covering the Oscars live in LA?

Please share the love with our speakers and the community. Comment on the blogs shown here or join the community conversation in this LinkedIn group discussion. We really appreciate your comments. Thanks for sharing everyone!

News Release: Ignite Raleigh 2 at Lincoln Theater on March 3

Global Movement Spreads Through Raleigh

Ignite Raleigh 2 at Lincoln Theatre on March 3

RALEIGH – Zombies, women’s boxing, saving energy and relationships are all on the agenda at Lincoln Theatre Wednesday night as 19 presenters and 600 attendees take part in Ignite Raleigh 2, sponsored by Phonebooth.com. This free event is part of Global Ignite Week, a global movement to share and spread inspiring ideas, which is taking place this week in more than 60 cities on six continents.

“Ignite events originated in Seattle in 2006 as technology variety shows, but they have grown into much more than that,” said Jeffrey L. Cohen, partner of OurHashtag, LLC, which is hosting the event. “Ignite is about ideas that can change the world. And it takes less than five minutes to spread one.” Since 2006, hundreds of five-minute talks have been given across the world. OurHashtag hosted the first Ignite Raleigh at the Lincoln Theater last August.

The format for each Ignite event is the same: each presenter is given five minutes on stage to present 20 slides, which will automatically advance every 15 seconds. The goal for presenters is to keep up with their slides and present the topics in an engaging and concise manner. Ignite Raleigh 2 will feature presentations selected by members of the Triangle community, as well as topics selected by the organizers. Nadia Moffett, 2010 Miss North Carolina USA, and WRAL-TV Meterologist Elizabeth Gardner are two of the speakers who will present their ideas in the five-minute format.

“We had a tremendous community response to Ignite Raleigh last year and we are looking forward to an even bigger event in 2010,” said Wayne Sutton, entrepreneur, strategist and one of the organizers of Ignite Raleigh. “The presenters have a better understanding of the five-minute format, and the audience knows what to expect. This event will showcase some of the talented individuals and the diversity of ideas in the Triangle.”

The event is free, but attendees must have a ticket. For a complete lineup of speakers and topics and to print a ticket, go to: http://IgniteRaleigh.com.

Ignite Raleigh 2 Encourages Donors Choose Donations

Posted by Jeff Cohen in Ignite Raleigh 2, News

Ignite Raleigh 2 is free for attendees thanks to our sponsors, however, as one of the initiatives of Global Ignite Week, we encourage you to make a donation to a local education project using Donors Choose. DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need.

Here’s how it works: public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class.

Then, you can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that inspires you. Once a project reaches its funding goal, we deliver the materials to the school.

You’ll get photos of your project taking place, a thank-you letter from the teacher, and a cost report showing how each dollar was spent. If you give over $100, you’ll also receive hand-written thank-you letters from the students.

At DonorsChoose.org, you can give as little as $1 and get the same level of choice, transparency, and feedback that is traditionally reserved for someone who gives millions. We call it citizen philanthropy.

Browse projects submitted by local teachers in your county. This is a great way to support YOUR community.
    Donors Choose – Wake
    Donors Choose – Durham
    Donors Choose – Orange
    Donors Choose – Chatham
    Donors Choose – Johnston

If you make a donation, we would love to hear about it.

Press Release: O’Reilly Media Launches Video Portal igniteshow.com in Conjunction with Global Ignite Week

Posted by Ryan Boyles in Ignite Raleigh 2, News

New site showcases hundreds of 5-minute videos from Ignite events worldwide

    Global Ignite Week
O’Reilly has officially announced the launch of igniteshow.com!

Sebastopol, CA—Humans really like to congregate. Even as we increasingly live—and share—our lives online, we seek out opportunities to meet, talk, and get recharged by the energy of a crowd. From March 1-5, 2010, roughly 10,000 people will congregate at more than 60 Ignites on six continents, as the first Global Ignite Week rolls across the planet. They’ll gather in local venues, grab a cold beverage, and watch a series of 5-minute talks from geeks, entrepreneurs, creative professionals, farmers, educators—people in their community who rise to the challenge of the Ignite motto: “Enlighten us, but make it quick.”
And now those Ignite events will be able to showcase their local Igniter’s talks online. O’Reilly Media has launched igniteshow.com, a new video portal that brings hundreds of 5-minute Ignite videos together in one site.

Read the entire Press Release on O’Reilly.com.

The sponsors of Global Ignite Week include Bing, Facebook, DonorsChoose, Eventbrite, Foursquare, Lullabot, Mashable and StickerGiant. Be sure to also read Mashable’s 10 reasons to watch or attend an Ignite event.

Be sure to check out the Raleigh city event page on IgniteShow.com or poke around and see if there is an Ignite night in your hometown. Videos will be continuously added to this central website as Global Ignite Week goes on during the first week of March 2010.
