In the meantime, we encourage everyone to share their own videos, photos and blog recaps of the night. Please tag everything, “IgniteRaleigh” and this will help us discover all the great content recorded by the audience. This includes Flickr, YouTube, Slideshare, Twitter (isn’t Twitterfall cool?), Blogs, Media coverage; you name it. If you want to contribute to the growing list of Blog recaps and media coverage, please bookmark these in Delicious and they will be included in the widget on this post. Global Movement Spreads Through Raleigh

Ignite Raleigh 2 at Lincoln Theatre on March 3

RALEIGH – Zombies, women’s boxing, saving energy and relationships are all on the agenda at Lincoln Theatre Wednesday night as 19 presenters and 600 attendees take part in Ignite Raleigh 2, sponsored by Phonebooth.com. This free event is part of Global Ignite Week, a global movement to share and spread inspiring ideas, which is taking place this week in more than 60 cities on six continents.

“Ignite events originated in Seattle in 2006 as technology variety shows, but they have grown into much more than that,” said Jeffrey L. Cohen, partner of OurHashtag, LLC, which is hosting the event. “Ignite is about ideas that can change the world. And it takes less than five minutes to spread one.” Since 2006, hundreds of five-minute talks have been given across the world. OurHashtag hosted the first Ignite Raleigh at the Lincoln Theater last August.

The format for each Ignite event is the same: each presenter is given five minutes on stage to present 20 slides, which will automatically advance every 15 seconds. The goal for presenters is to keep up with their slides and present the topics in an engaging and concise manner. Ignite Raleigh 2 will feature presentations selected by members of the Triangle community, as well as topics selected by the organizers. Nadia Moffett, 2010 Miss North Carolina USA, and WRAL-TV Meterologist Elizabeth Gardner are two of the speakers who will present their ideas in the five-minute format.

“We had a tremendous community response to Ignite Raleigh last year and we are looking forward to an even bigger event in 2010,” said Wayne Sutton, entrepreneur, strategist and one of the organizers of Ignite Raleigh. “The presenters have a better understanding of the five-minute format, and the audience knows what to expect. This event will showcase some of the talented individuals and the diversity of ideas in the Triangle.”

Nadia Shirin Moffett of High Point, North Carolina is an active community and business leader. After graduating from The University of North Carolina Greensboro in 2007 where she attained her Bachelors of Science in Marketing and minor in Information Technology, she began her career in a Leadership Path Program for American Express Company, developing and engaging employees in career and performance development. With the launch of Nadia’s foundation in 2008, Make Me A Queen Foundation, which is a not for profit organization with its mission is to inspire young women to reach their full potential, she was able to make an impact in her community and the lives of many young women.
Nadia’s passion and purpose for her role as Miss North Carolina USA is to inspire young women to reach maximum potential in their lives. Her plan is to expand the Make Me A Queen Foundation program to women across the state of North Carolina, driving empowerment, inspiration and growth among young women. She looks forward to continuing her passion for women’s empowerment through her advocacy of Breast and Ovarian Cancer research throughout the state of North Carolina.
Nadia enjoys running 5K and 10K races, writing and reciting poetry, public Speaking and working with youth. Requirements:

1. Create 20 slides to illustrate and support your presentation. The title slide counts as one of the 20.

2. Use this IgniteRaleigh Title Slide (in powerpoint) to begin your presentation. This is the only format requirement. There is no template for your interior slides.

3. Create your presentation in Powerpoint or Keynote.

4. Each slide will show for only 15 seconds and automatically advance.

5. No animation, video or other moving parts on individual slides.

6. No transitions between slides. We will build large presentation decks grouping presentations in order (to be determined) and set auto advance (every 15 seconds).

7. Slides are due Friday, February 26 by 8pm. Speakers will be contacted how to submit slide decks.

Suggestions:

1. Outline your talk and develop your 3-5 main ideas before creating any slides.

2. Create visual slides that illustrate your points.

3. Avoid bullet points. The audience wants to hear what you have to say, not read it from the screen.

4. A tightly scripted talk that requires you to hit slides when they switch requires lots of practice.

5. Practice, practice, practice.

Last year over 500 attendees joined the Triangle community as the first Ignite event was held in North Carolina. Today we’re pleased to announce the presentation submissions for Ignite Raleigh 2. Do you have what it takes to stand in-front of hundreds people and share your ideas with the community? If so starting today, you can submit your presentation ideas for Ignite Raleigh 2. As the ideas are submitted, you can vote up to 10 times on other Ignite talks that you would like to see. We’re planning to have 15 presentations. The top 10 presentation ideas selected by the community will present at Ignite Raleigh 2. Five will be chosen from the organizing committee.

To submit your Ignite Raleigh presentation topic go to http://voting.igniteraleigh.com and log in to the site. Enter your topic or presentation title in the box below “I would like to speak on ……” Click the button that says “create a new idea” to launch a pop-up window where you can add more detailed information about your talk. Also please consider adding a link to a short video pitch of your talk (under 1 minute), so the community can get a better sense of your presentation style.

As presentation talks start to roll in you have up to 10 votes to vote on the topics you would like to see at Ignite Raleigh 2. We recommend visiting http://voting.igniteraleigh.com/ often in the next couple of weeks to review submitted topics and vote for your favorites. After submitting your own topic, encourage your friends and followers to vote for your presentation.

We want everyone to focus on Ignite presentations that teach something and have social value, but are open and creative. The presentation submissions and voting deadline will be February 17, 2010 with the top 10 vote getters speaking to the community.

The Carolina Rollergirls‘ derby is NOT a wrasslin’ style circus act. Staged fighting has been replaced with walloping take-outs. The fast-dodging jammers are too hungry for points to slow down for silly acrobatics, and the hits keep getting harder every season.

Formed in January 2004, their mission has been to bring an alternative sporting entertainment to North Carolina while training for national competition. The Carolina Rollergirls now have two interleague teams – The Carolina All-Stars, currently ranked #4 in the nation, and the Carolina Bootleggers. These interleague teams take the top skaters in the league and match them up against other Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) teams in the nation.

Roller derby is a sport for women who play life by a different set of rules. They’re proud, hard-working, independent-minded women. We’re vixens, wise-crackers and naughty troublemakers. And They’re big-hearted women ready to get down and derby.

Fans are such an important part of the roller derby experience! The game is played on a flat rink surface, which allows fans to be a part of the action. Coming from I-40 Take exit 299 (Person St./ Hammond St.). Turn onto Person St. towards downtown. Go 1.5 miles and turn left onto Cabarrus St. The Lincoln will be 2 blocks on your left.

Coming from North Raleigh on Capital Blvd./Glenwood Ave Follow into downtown and turn left onto Morgan St. then turn right on Blount St. Go 4 blocks and turn right onto Cabarrus and the Lincoln is on the left.

Coming from West Raleigh/NCSU Take Western Blvd. into downtown and turn left onto Wilmington St. Go 3 blocks and turn right onto Cabarrus St. and the Lincoln is on the right.

Please bring your eventbrite printout showing your registration. Lincoln Theatre staff will be checking IDs at the door, so please have yours ready to speed the process of entry.

Seating
As this is a rock club and their capacity is based on standing, not sitting, we will have limited seating. There will be approximately 100 seats on the floor and about 75 barstools along the rail on the second level. Note that we have over 500 hundred people registered. As this is a fun, community event, the free-flowing environment of the audience provides a great opportunity to meet those around you.

Event Details
There will be 15 entertaining and informative presentations, along with music by Rhett and Link and DJ Rousseau. The evening will be MC’d by Zach Ward of DSI Comedy Theater in Carrboro.

There will be a handful of door prizes given away during the event. They will be drawn from the entries on July 29 and you must be present to win. See this post for details. We are excited to announce our house DJ for Ignite Raleigh tonight. DJ Rousseau is a renown local Electronica Disk Jockey who has deejayed at several prominent triangle clubs over the past ten years. You have heard his turntables at NV in Chapel Hill, Cafe Cyclo in Raleigh and the FAME parties at Ringside in Durham. DJ Rousseau was co-founder of the Resonance Project and resident DJ at Kulture in Raleigh. And a cool bit of history / trivia for all of the NCSU Wolfpack Alumni: DJ Rousseau was the co-founder of WKNC 88.1’s After-Hours show in 1994, North Carolina’s longest running electronic music program. On top of all of this, Rob is a true geek who is passionate about Linux, HAM radio and model railroading!

Ignite Raleigh to be held at Lincoln Theatre August 5, 2009

(Raleigh, NC: July 9, 2009) The air in Downtown Raleigh will be filled with fast-paced, high-minded ideas as Ignite Raleigh comes to the Lincoln Theatre on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 7pm. This free event, organized by Triangle startup company, OurHashtag, LLC, will bring together hundreds of members of the Raleigh community to ponder these revolutionary ideas and cheer on the community chosen speakers.

Ignite Raleigh is about ideas and ideas can change the world. And it takes less than five minutes to spread one. Each presenter gets five minutes on stage to present their idea with 20 slides that rotate automatically after 15 seconds. These are not sales pitches, but educational presentations around a single idea.

Ignite events were originally conceived as technology variety shows, but they have grown into communities. Ignite was started in Seattle in 2006 by Brady Forrest, O’Reilly conference chair and technology writer, and Bre Pettis, entrepreneur. Since then hundreds of 5 minute talks have been given across the world. There are thriving Ignite communities in Seattle, Boulder, Portland, Paris, and NYC.

Wayne Sutton, partner in OurHashtag and one of the organizers of Ignite Raleigh, wanted to have this event in our area because it is unlike any other event we have seen. “Ignite Raleigh will really bring the community together for this one evening, and beyond. This will highlight talented individuals and the diversity of ideas in the Raleigh area. We are excited to see the presentations and look forward to the conversations after tonight that will fuel continued community growth and more events like Ignite Raleigh.”

Ignite Raleigh will include presentations from members of the Triangle community. The event organizers have already selected two featured presenters, include Ryan P. Allis, Co-Founder and CEO of iContact, an email marketing company, and Shawn Rocco, photojournalist with the News & Observer. There will be two other featured presenters selected by the organizers. Ten other presenters will be selected by community vote. 34 topics, 363 voters and 1,476 votes have already been submitted at Voting.IgniteRaleigh.com. Voting ends on July 20 at 11:59 P.M. EST.

The fun-filled night will also include musical entertainment. Already on schedule to perform are North Carolina-based comedy duo, Rhettt and Link. These musicians, filmmakers and “Internetainers” are best known in this area for the BBQ song. As more performers are confirmed, we will add them here.

With our first incarnation of Ignite Raleigh to be held in August, one issue surrounded in a bit of mystery is the process used to select the presenters. We’re anticipating lots of quality of submissions from the community, all hoping to give a presentation at our first Ignite Raleigh event.

Some presentations will be selected by volunteers and the planning committee, while others will be voted upon by you the Raleigh, and Trianglewide, community. Within the next couple of weeks, we’ll post a call for presentations, along with information about submitting your presentation topic. After submitting your topic, feel free to promote your idea to your social network and encourage your local friends and followers to vote for your presentation idea.

Here are a couple of presenters that have we have already chosen to present or perform at Ignite Raleigh. Ryan Allis, Co-Founder and CEO of iContact, is sure to give an inspiring Ignite presentation. He speaks on entrepreneurship, finding and following your passion, marketing, and social entrepreneurship, and he is someone whose ideas are changing the world.
