Tim holds down many titles in the tech field. By day, he is an IT Director for a medical research company in RTP. By night, he can be found blogging, creating video content  as well as working as a podcasting consultant, WordPress consultant, and Audio/Video sales consultant.

IT Manager for Web Services at North Carolina Central University. He provides leadership to a team of developers responsible for the creation and maintenance of NCCU.edu. He has over 10 years of professional experience building and managing the web infrastructure for both private companies and public universities. Most notably, he served seven years with his alma mater Elizabeth City State University.

When not working for the State, he creates content via his blog (damondnollan.com), podcasts (Room 3026 Live and The Techmonks), and camera. He is actively pursuing his doctorate in business from the University of Phoenix. He is a father of 3 children and he enjoys finding great stuff on Netflix. Originally from Tacoma, Washington, he has lived in North Carolina since 1994.

Why did we decide to get even deeper into Ignite this year?

Because Capstrat is proud of the community of bright and creative individuals here in the Triangle.  And we wanted to play a role in the perfect event that crams as much of that talent as possible into one frenzied evening of disparate topics delivered in whiplash fashion.  Plus, we really like making posters.

From public relations, digital, social media, multi-media, advertising and public affairs consulting; Capstrat prides itself in being a communications company that helps businesses and organizations in moments of critical need. Much like the critical need to remember that first line when your five minutes starts up on the stage.

Jack (Vocals, Piano & Lead Guitar), Eric (Vocals & Guitar) Todd (Bass, Upright Bass, and Vocals), and Johnathan (Banjo & Vocals), have a sound like none other. They call it “ acoustic jamgrass”. Meet Page:

Page Crawford Fehling is the morning traffic reporter/fill-in anchor/utility player at WNCN/NBC-17 in Raleigh.  She wakes up for work every morning at 1:30am.  Unfortunately for her, that’s not a joke.

Page grew up right outside of Washington, DC; graduated with a journalism degree from UNC Chapel Hill; worked as an NBC Page in New York City (yes, she was “Page-the-Page”); and spent two years in the Peace Corps in Honduras digging latrines and cleaning up poop.  She now has two kids in diapers.  Don’t you love when life comes full circle?

Page’s inbox is never clear, her to-do list constantly hangs over her head, and she can’t resist McDonald’s French fries, a good bottle of Chardonnay, or sentences with lots of lists and commas.  But she can also throw a runner out at home from deep center.  Underhand.  So I guess we all have something.

Page is currently in love with three men.  But she’s married to one of them, and gave birth to the other two so that’ll teach you to jump to conclusions.

Meet Jake:

Jake Fehling. 32. Genius. Supermodel.  High school sports legend (just ask him). Modest.

OK, so maybe he’s just 32.

Jake is the Director of Media & Public Relations for USA Baseball. Office based in Durham, 4-field complex in Cary.  You can ask him about his high school achievements, but whatever you do don’t ask him to explain what USA Baseball is.  You see, baseball was kicked out of the Olympics two years ago, and he’s been reeling ever since.  His elevator pitch of “I do the Olympics” was shot to pieces.  Now he takes about 5-10 minutes trying to explain that his organization brings top baseball prospects to the Triangle about 1-2 years before they get famous.  Just nod and act like you understand.  It makes him feel better.

Jake enjoys fantasy sports, a good IPA and writing long, flowery bios. He loves his wife and two boys very much, but the latter often send him to the edge of sanity…then to hiring babysitters…then finally, to events like this.

Meet Jage (yes, you read that right):

In addition to sharing one of the more oft-mispronounced last names in America (it’s “Fehling” like “failing” a test, not like “feeling” someone up), Jake and Page Fehling also have the useless (though impressive) distinction of being a combined 12 feet, 6 inches tall.

If you were a big You Tube fan between 2006 and 2009 you may have been one of the almost 1 million people who saw their (Original!  First!  Did it before those Sir-Mix-A-Lot people!) surprise first wedding dance.  Or you may have caught their subsequent appearance on the “wedding dance-off” episode of The Rachael Ray show in which they won a second Honeymoon to St. Croix for the “free” price of just $2,500 in taxes.  Proving that they are fun enough to win a dance-off, but not smart enough to read the small print.

You can often find Jake and Page around town co-emceeing events for local non-profits, online at The Preggo Page (dot) com, or generally speaking in a crowd… if you just look up.  Together they created Ford, 2 and Cal, 1; who today, were only a combined 5 on the toddler butt-head scale.  Baby steps.

Jake and Page enjoy wrestling aforementioned midgets, sharing Digiorno Supreme pizzas, and fighting almost to the death during girls vs. boys Catchphrase.  And Ignite Raleigh 3.  They are big fans of that too.

Putting on an event the size of a small town (no really, Maggie Valley’s population is 635) is no small feat (no pun intended). At least we don’t have to vote on a Mayor or Town Council or School Board or…you get the picture.  The bottom line, it takes MANY hands to make Ignite a success!

It’s great for your resume, time commitment is minimal, and you never know who you’ll meet!

Global Movement Spreads Through Raleigh

Ignite Raleigh 2 at Lincoln Theatre on March 3

RALEIGH – Zombies, women’s boxing, saving energy and relationships are all on the agenda at Lincoln Theatre Wednesday night as 19 presenters and 600 attendees take part in Ignite Raleigh 2, sponsored by Phonebooth.com. This free event is part of Global Ignite Week, a global movement to share and spread inspiring ideas, which is taking place this week in more than 60 cities on six continents.

“Ignite events originated in Seattle in 2006 as technology variety shows, but they have grown into much more than that,” said Jeffrey L. Cohen, partner of OurHashtag, LLC, which is hosting the event. “Ignite is about ideas that can change the world. And it takes less than five minutes to spread one.” Since 2006, hundreds of five-minute talks have been given across the world. OurHashtag hosted the first Ignite Raleigh at the Lincoln Theater last August.

The format for each Ignite event is the same: each presenter is given five minutes on stage to present 20 slides, which will automatically advance every 15 seconds. The goal for presenters is to keep up with their slides and present the topics in an engaging and concise manner. Ignite Raleigh 2 will feature presentations selected by members of the Triangle community, as well as topics selected by the organizers. Nadia Moffett, 2010 Miss North Carolina USA, and WRAL-TV Meterologist Elizabeth Gardner are two of the speakers who will present their ideas in the five-minute format.

“We had a tremendous community response to Ignite Raleigh last year and we are looking forward to an even bigger event in 2010,” said Wayne Sutton, entrepreneur, strategist and one of the organizers of Ignite Raleigh. “The presenters have a better understanding of the five-minute format, and the audience knows what to expect. This event will showcase some of the talented individuals and the diversity of ideas in the Triangle.”

Nadia Shirin Moffett of High Point, North Carolina is an active community and business leader. With a passion to empower people, Nadia has found ways to inspire others in her career and in the community. After graduating from The University of North Carolina Greensboro in 2007 where she attained her Bachelors of Science in Marketing and minor in Information Technology, she began her career in a Leadership Path Program for American Express Company, developing and engaging employees in career and performance development. With the launch of Nadia’s foundation in 2008, Make Me A Queen Foundation, which is a not for profit organization with its mission is to inspire young women to reach their full potential, she was able to make an impact in her community and the lives of many young women.
Nadia’s passion and purpose for her role as Miss North Carolina USA is to inspire young women to reach maximum potential in their lives. Her plan is to expand the Make Me A Queen Foundation program to women across the state of North Carolina, driving empowerment, inspiration and growth among young women. She looks forward to continuing her passion for women’s empowerment through her advocacy of Breast and Ovarian Cancer research throughout the state of North Carolina.
Nadia enjoys running 5K and 10K races, writing and reciting poetry, public Speaking and working with youth. Requirements:

1. Create 20 slides to illustrate and support your presentation. The title slide counts as one of the 20.

2. Use this IgniteRaleigh Title Slide (in powerpoint) to begin your presentation. This is the only format requirement. There is no template for your interior slides.

3. Create your presentation in Powerpoint or Keynote.

4. Each slide will show for only 15 seconds and automatically advance.

5. No animation, video or other moving parts on individual slides.

6. No transitions between slides. We will build large presentation decks grouping presentations in order (to be determined) and set auto advance (every 15 seconds).

7. Slides are due Friday, February 26 by 8pm. Speakers will be contacted how to submit slide decks.

Suggestions:

1. Outline your talk and develop your 3-5 main ideas before creating any slides.

2. Create visual slides that illustrate your points.

3. Avoid bullet points. The audience wants to hear what you have to say, not read it from the screen.

4. A tightly scripted talk that requires you to hit slides when they switch requires lots of practice.

5. Practice, practice, practice.
